Trauma Services

The Jean Tweed Centre has made changes to some of our programs in the interest of the health and safety of our clients during the Covid-19 pandemic. We are currently offering many of our trauma services online including group and individual counselling. Please note that the trauma program is available to current clients of the agency only. Clients who are interested in the trauma program can speak with their individual Jean Tweed counsellor.

All of the Jean Tweed Centre’s substance use, gambling and mental health programs are trauma-informed, which means they are designed with an understanding and approach that is supportive and tailored for women who have experienced trauma.

The programs below are designed specifically to support women who are working through substance use and/or gambling concerns after living through distressing experiences or traumatic events.

Building Resilience

This four-week group will help you understand the impacts of trauma, its connections to substance use and/or gambling, and builds on existing resources to cope with these challenges.

Seeking Safety

This 20-week program explores and addresses the impact of trauma and substance use and/or gambling, with a focus on safety skills, coping, empowerment, and personal support.

Parenting Beyond Trauma

This eight-week group is for women who have experienced trauma and are parenting young children. In a supportive environment, build your awareness about the impacts of trauma on parenting and strengthen effective parenting skills.

Trauma Recovery Group

This 16-week group is for women who have had previous trauma counselling, have achieved some control over their post-traumatic symptoms, and are stable in their goals related to substance use and/or gambling. Building on your previous work, you will have an opportunity to focus on the individual goals you have or want to set to further your own healing.

Trauma and the Body (I & II)

These groups are for women who have done some initial work around trauma and are interested in how they can use their body as a resource. You will learn to become more mindful and aware of your body and learn how you can use your body to address and heal trauma.
