COUNSELLING SUPPORT
Our counselling services offer a safe and confidential space designed explicitly to support women
COUNSELLING SERVICES FOR WOMEN
Counselling women experiencing substance abuse, trauma, mental health challenges, and gambling-related issues involves providing a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment where they feel heard, respected, and empowered.
The counselling process focuses on understanding each woman’s unique experiences, identifying underlying challenges, and exploring how trauma, emotional distress, substance use, and gambling may affect her well-being and daily life.
Through a trauma-informed, compassionate, and client-centred approach, counselling supports women in developing healthy coping strategies, strengthening self-esteem, managing emotions, setting personal goals, and building resilience. It also involves providing education, connecting women with appropriate community resources and support services, and encouraging positive lifestyle changes to promote recovery, independence, and long-term emotional and mental well-being. The Jean Tweed Centre also offers continuing care for up to two years and support for friends and family who are also affected.
INDIVIDUAL COUNSELLING
Weekly counselling for women seeking support with substance use and/or gambling challenges who may not be able to participate in a 3-week program.
CONTINUING CARE
After completing the Jean Tweed Centre’s programming, we offer up to two years of continuing care and support to help women maintain and build on the changes they’ve made.
FRIEND & FAMILY SUPPORT
Friends and family members need support and strategies too. Our weekly group is a safe and supportive environment to help you learn how to offer support, and how to cope.
INDIVIDUAL SUPPORT
Over the course of three to six months, you will participate in weekly appointments with a dedicated individual counsellor to work through challenges one-on-one. You can also expect to participate in some of our weekly groups, after working with your counsellor to decide which groups are best suited to your situation and needs.
If you’re not able to work within the structure of a 3-week program, we can also offer a more flexible individual counselling program.
CONTINUING CARE
For women who have completed our programs, we offer up to two years of support to help maintain and build on the changes you’ve made.
If you have completed our programs and would like to access continuing care, call or email your counsellor or contact us by phone 416-255-7359 or via email at info@jeantweed.com
Group Counselling
Participate in this group offered twice a week to examine your lifestyle choices, strengthen your coping skills and access ongoing support from your peers. Women who take advantage of this service are much better equipped to meet their personal goals and less likely to experience serious setbacks.
For out-of-town women, remote support is available on a limited basis.
Individual Counselling
Individual counselling related to your substance use or gambling goals is also available as part of the continuing care program, in addition to the weekly groups.
You can receive up to 12 individual counselling sessions during your two years of continuing care.
